Perfect motorhome club site for walking the Yorkshire Dales

Richmond Hargill House Site, North Yorkshire

Richmond Hargill House club site is positioned in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales National Park. As we’ve come to expect from The Caravan and Motorhome Club sites, everything was to the highest standards. We arrived on the first day of this sites season which runs from the 17th March to the 6th of November.

The staff were super friendly and offered us a choice of pitches and gave their personal recommendations for pitches best for views and wifi signal. A word of warning, the A66 runs along one of this sites perimeters. This side of the site is fenced and tree lined but for a quieter night avoid these pitches.  We opted for pitch number 40 of  61 and parked nose on to the peg, taking advantage of views across fields and woodland.

Facilities at Richmond Hargill

Facilities at Richmond Hargill are excellent. The toilet block is superb with basin and shower cubicles, all immaculately clean. Another nice facility is the information hut. This has your normal attraction leaflets but also a folder with info for local supermarkets, take-aways, restaurants and pubs listed. The addition of handwritten notes such as ‘dog friendly’ and ‘great food, reasonably priced’ is a nice touch.

The reception doubles as shop selling essentials plus chocolate bars and biscuits! I also noticed it sells accessories like levelling ramps. If you’ve not got levellers you may want to grab some, the majority of pitches slope gently downwards from the A66 perimeter.

Out and about at Richmond Hargill

The Yorkshire Dales inspired James Herriots novels and Turner’s landscapes. You can visit many of the locations used in the James Herriot ‘All Creatures Great & Small’ TV series. The tourist board has published a Turner Trail walks leaflet.  This guide allows walkers to explore the beautiful scenery that inspired his legendary images.

The area offers transport links, with a bus service into Darlington and Richmond. The site is also well placed to visit the city of Durham, with iconic cathedral and picturesque location, and vibrant Newcastle, which offers great shopping and lots of places to eat and drink along the Quayside.
