Brit Stops 2017 – free motorhome stopovers

Why didn’t I think of it? The Brit Stops scheme is one of those obvious but great ideas where everyone wins! It’s a network of hosts who are happy for motorhome owners to stay overnight on their ground free of charge. Hosts range from vineyards in the Kent countryside, organic farms in rural Devon, small local breweries in Northumberland, farm shops in Wales and centuries-old inns in beautiful English villages (there’s even a llama park!).

You can now travel all over the UK stopping overnight at any of the hundreds of “Brit Stops” motorhome stopovers as an invited guest of the Brit Stops hosts. It’s a reciprocal scheme, you get a free pitch and in return the host gets to promote their wares. Obviously, if you’re host is a pub or restaurant, chances are you’ll have a pint or a meal, or both!

Taste fresh, authentic local produce made where you are staying, make new friends and learn about the daily life of your hosts. For lovers of the countryside it’s now easier than ever to stay in the heart of rural communities and experience a truly authentic holiday. Your host can be your experienced guide through the tastes and sensations of local produce that, either being sourced locally or even being made on the premises, is as fresh as it can possibly get.

Brit Stops aims

  • To promote direct contact and a positive relationship between motorhome owners and local producers who provide or process regional products or provide services to the community
  • To promote the diversity and richness of the different British regions to a broader public
  • To improve recognition and understanding of our regional products and culinary traditions, both at home and abroad
  • To encourage sustainable tourism through our links with local communities

The Brit Stops directory is a quality publication, that lists all hosts participating in the network for the year ahead. Each host entry lists all the information you need to decide whether you want to stay there.

    • Unfortunately Brit Stops is just for self-contained motorhomes, panel van conversions or campervans. Parking is in customer carparks, not on pitches, so manouvring can be an issue with other customers coming and going. Also, most hosts will not have fresh water available to fill an Aquaroll, or anywhere to dispose of waste water from the waste caddy.
